This is Peter Young. He is the Director of State of Hawaii Dept. of Land & Natural Resources, a huge part of the bureaucracy that manages state lands and the surrounding ocean. For the past week, Mr. Young has been on the hot seat in a long and onerous process of Senate confirmation. The confirmation process is required for him and all other cabinet members of Governor Linda Lingle to go through in order to secure a second term as a director. Mr. Young has been doing a good job running the sprawling department, but has been subjected to something short of a Spanish inquisition on management allegations brought forth by a handful of disgruntled unionized employees.
